Move from Mailchimp to MailerLite
Checked Nov 2, 2026. Every step below comes from the vendors' own help pages, linked under each step. Screens and prices change, so check the linked page before you start.
How long it takes
The list import is a few clicks. Rebuilding forms, templates, and automations takes longer, depending on how many you have. Neither vendor gives a time, so we won't guess.
1. Save a backup from Mailchimp first
- Click Audience, pick the audience, click Export audience, then Export CSV. The export can come as a ZIP of separate CSV files. It stays in your account for 30 days.
- For a fuller backup (emails, audiences, reports), Mailchimp also has an account export.

2. Bring your list into MailerLite
- In MailerLite, go to Subscribers, click Add subscribers, and open the Import from Mailchimp tab.
- Log in with your Mailchimp account, or use a Mailchimp API key.
- Choose your lists, how fields match up, whether tags become groups, whether to bring segments, and whether to include unsubscribed or unconfirmed people (MailerLite can't send newsletters to them).
- Choose how duplicates are handled, then click Let's import. You get a summary of who was added, updated, and not added.
What doesn't come over on its own
- Behavior, e-commerce, and advanced segments. Only simple field-based segments are rebuilt.
- Forms and landing pages: rebuild them under Forms and Sites.
- Email templates: rebuild them under My templates.
- Automations: rebuild them under Automation.
3. Before you send
- Set up (authenticate) your sending domain in MailerLite.
- Preview forms and pages, send test emails to yourself, and run each automation once.
- Only import people who agreed to get your marketing email.
- New Mailchimp signups don't copy over by themselves. Use Sync again under Import from Mailchimp to bring them over.
